Tedium and Ti Diem
Sunnandæg, or Sunday as we say now, arrived appropriately with a sunrise. Odd how so many cultures consider this day of the week the sun’s day. But some European nations go with “rest day”, and some religious cultures go with “the first day”, יום ראשון yom rishon in Hebrew. But I don’t think the sun cares. You can call it fried okra day and the sun will continue to rise. It just does that, and only foolish man is compelled to give it a name.
I am a bit peevish today, the tree people were supposed to have come by yesterday to tell me how much of my disposable income they want to remove a tree that blew over next the house, and didn’t show. It was a miracle that the roof didn’t cave in over Snooks and my head when it went … we were idly watching it just sort of rotate like God’s hand was on protecting us as it slowly went down alongside the house. It was a surreal slow-motion moment in time. But maybe he’ll come by today … I really need that tree taken out.
I’ll miss it for sure, because it housed birds and provide a lot of important morning porch sitting shade. The cardinals and mockingbirds sassed me from the branches as I woke to the day. It seems us old men need a lot of scolding, and the world happily provides it.
I am almost totally ignorant of the Democrats antics in staging their little coup. As long as they don’t try to enforce it at the point of a gun, they’ll be allowed to do their peevish little dance in Congress. I am still among the most ill-informed now that I have kicked all news off my TV, and permit very little to come via the internet. It’s a fight and I am far to decrepit to take up a cudgel and bash heads. Reformers are all pushing the Presidents boorishness at me, and getting irked when I answer “So? I didn’t vote for him because he is a saint. I voted for him because he wasn’t Hillary.”
Oh well. It will play out how it plays out. La-de-dah and fiddle-de-de.
Today is waffle day. I have the artform almost down pat now. Batter in one bowl, sausage in the skillet, and I make Snook drink a glass of grape juice because I heard on the internet that it is good for her even if she isn’t so fond of it. And we all know how reliable nutrition experts on the internet are.
So goes the weekly tedium. Hmm. Tedium. Probably from the Latin ti deim. Short prayers to God that are strung together. Odd how we can take praise and make it boring. Oh well. Shant go down that bunny trail

Too bad you’re in Texas. In WV, chainsaws are like guns – at least one for every man, boy, and half the women in the state. Neighbors would be fighting to cut up and haul away that tree.
After a perfectly sunny blue and white day yesterday, Sunday has slipped in cool and gray. It’s a beautifully soft morning here on the hill and it’s keeping me from dwelling on what promises to be a property line disputes with the local douchebag. I’m so mellow these days that it’s ridiculous, but I can only be pushed so far before “young me” kicks in the door and takes over. Why can’t jerks just leave us old folks alone, huh? Having to dig my pissed off mode out of storage pisses me off.
Anyway, enough of that. I ate all the ginger snaps so I brought y’all some chocolate chunk / with walnuts cookies. Here’s my cup…

Chocolate chunk ‘n walnuts is just fine. I am so glad that when I bought the place I had the site engineered and the corners permanently marked above ground so’s all I had to do was pull a string between the post to end the encroachment argument quickly.
I was hoping a neighbor would stop by who needed firewood, but so far, no offers … but the ranchers moved back further in the landscape and the developers are buying up the sorghum fields … so’s I got mostly city folks around me.

I love listening to the birds in the morning, but sometimes they get confused and chirp at night (in the crepe myrtle trees outside my window). Sadly, it was time to have the myrtles trimmed back … HOA management did it … and the birds were not happy. They took to the roof and scolded everyone who walked by as if they were holding a protest.

I am thinking that I’ll replace the acacia with a crape myrtle. They are plentiful around here and inexpensive … I do like having the birds close by, even if they do seem to attract the feral felines …

There is a chainsaw in my garage. I could hop on a segway and head your way . I should get there by the time someone else does all the work 😉 . Asplundh was around here last week trimming trees along the power lines. They butchered one of my maple trees. I stood out there like a grumpy old lady glaring at them once I saw what they were doing. Otherwise there probably wouldn’t be a branch left on that tree. But I guess I will be happy come hurricane season if one passes through. I have never lost power after the 6 hurricanes I have been through down here. Well, I take that back, I lost it two years ago for about 2 hours. Have a nice week Sir!

Lia, I’ve been here since 1952 and every single hurricane has taken out our power and/or telephone lines. We are still recovering from last year’s mess. Sigh …

Oh wow, I guess we have just been lucky especially after those two pretty intense ones a couple of years ago. The only time I lost power was back in 1989 when I still lived in South Carolina and Hugo went through. It was a cat 4 and we lost power for days. So I feel quite blessed so far, but there is always a first one. They have been doing a lot of upgrading on the power grid down this way this past year. Hopefully you will not have any this year. I heard the panhandle is still a big mess. My brother drove through last month and said it looks like a war zone in places still.

Lia – The last hurricane to hit us was Irma in 2017, and the flooding was unbelievable. My neighborhood was flooded up to my street and boats were taking people out of their homes 3 blocks over (closer to the river). In the past, damage from tropical storms has been almost as devastating as direct hits from hurricanes. It’s going to take years for the people in the panhandle to recover, but I’ve heard many people in Mexico Beach are refusing to leave.
