All before breakfast

Posted on

Here I am enjoying the first porch sitting morning with my brand spankin’ new computer cart and laptop. Well, the laptop wasn’t new when I bought it, and I bought it a year ago in an effort to get me out of my underwear in the morning. It probably isn’t a good idea to sit out on the porch in your BVD’s … not that any of the millennials in the audience would know what BVD’s are. But they would know that I wasn’t dressed for the out-of-doors if they saw me in ‘em.

Onwards

*sip!*

I was hoping my old tree trimmer would answer my call, he was a lot more reasonable than the big tree trimmers are, but I need the tree out of here. Another local boy, dairy farmer and goat raiser living down by the confluence stopped by and bid on it. I cried a little, bartered a little, shook hands and the deal was made before my second cup of coffee.

*sip!*

The mocking birds that have taken up in the black pecan tree next to the fallen tree are really piercing my eardrums this morning with their mating songs, while the neighbors high pitched mower whines in the distance. Saplings spring up, old trees die, country lanes are paved, and pickup trucks are exchanged for hybrids.  Time marches relentlessly on, and geezers write long rambling posts with the mornings coffee.

Good morning!

It’s your porch, wear what you like.
Just think of it as a door to door salesman deterrent.

Sadly, the city folk are taking over and the helicopter moms in the development down the road would be calling the morals police on me … gone are the good old days when a man could pee off the porch …

There is something to be said for porch sitting, especially if you are comfortable. I doubt my neighbors would appreciate old me in a duster robe enjoying a cup of coffee, but the thought has crossed my mind a time or two.

It’s nearly 7 p.m. on the east coast and the myrtles are starting to sprout all kinds of greenery. The lizards are happy, but the birds will wait awhile before building their nests. I can’t wait for the blooms, all pink and gorgeous.

Fie on the neighbors! As long as everything is modestly covered, they can’ just go pound sand … 😉
(now I got to go trace that saying down …)
Yeah, I am going to miss that tree a lot … I didn’t realize how much shade it gave … but I am thinking either a crape myrtle or magnolia to replace it …

Either one but now that you mentioned a magnolia … they are lovely when in full bloom.

Well here I am, a couple of days late but I was 10 miles up the road on my segway heading out to cut that tree up (haha right!). I’m glad you found someone to do it for you. It’s hard when we get to a point we can’t do things for ourselves. I’m still mostly able to do everything, but when I had the bad knee for a year, my daughter was always sending someone over to mow my grass and I really did not like that feeling of being dependent on others. Still, it happens.

I go outside every morning around 6:30-7 to put food in the bird feeder and then I sit on my back porch in my pj’s and drink my coffee. Sometimes people are out walking on the sidewalk behind my house and they look over. I wonder if they notice how I am dressed, but then I think “who cares”. I’m a senior citizen now. I can do what I want hahaha.

Have a nice week. Maybe I will write a blog sometime soon, or later, but sometime!

It probably doesn’t faze them one way or the other. After all it is common to walk into Walmart or any grocery store and see people still dressed in their PJ’s. Things have changed. I don’t know if it is for the better or not, but it is certainly different.

Oh gosh, I hope I never get to the point I wear PJ’s to Walmart or anywhere outside my own back porch!
